After a long search, AOBA (African Ornamental Breeders Association) has managed to gather a handful of fanciers of the Cameroon sheep (Djallonké sheep) in the UK. These people may own quality sheep. And wish to join forces to further breed, develop and maintain a healthy and purebred population on the British Isles.
AOBA is willing to help make this a reality, by opening its International Studbook for Djallonke Goats & Sheep (ISDGS) until September 2025. After this date the studbook will be closed again and no new entries will be accepted.
In order to achieve this, the following points must be carried out.
Hello,
Thanks for reaching out to AOBA.
If you wish to join AOBA's ISDGS (Cameroon sheep herdbook) with your sheep, you must first do a purebred test. This costs 65€ per sheep to be registered if you wish to join the European population. This means that we check whether your sheep is purebred (genome check). If the sheep turns out to be purebred, we do the DNA profiling. And the sheep is included in the studbook. If the sheep is not purebred, the sheep will be refused entry.
All offspring with two purebred parents are then included by having a ''dna profiling'' registered. Which costs 58€/sheep. Of course you can always purchase a DNA lab test from third parties if you find it cheaper. And then you simply provide a copy of the results so that we connect it to the studbook profile of the sheep. So in other words, First generation costs 65€/sheep, the descendants cost 58€/sheep. We always recommend starting with the parents first. Of course if one of the parents turns out not to be purebred, there is no point in testing the young.
Due to the high number of submissions, the waiting time is 1 month after receipt before we inform you of the results.
Then if the sheep are purebred, you should take a photo of each sheep separately from the two side views. And send it to us by email. So that we can determine the correct color name for mentioning in the studbook.
If you have any further questions, we will be happy to assist you.
Regards,
Anais Mulewa
